81.93mpg CITROËN NEMO

For the third year in succession, the Citroën Nemo is the ‘UK’s Most Economical Van’ in the independent ALD Automotive/TOTAL ECO 10 MPG Marathon, organised by Fleet World magazine. This year a Citroën Nemo 1.4HDi van returned exceptional fuel economy of 81.93mpg and beat its official combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 64.2mpg by no less than 27.62%.

Driven by John Kendall, with co-driver Dr. Paul Nieuwenhuis, the Citroën Nemo beat all other LCVs that took part in the demanding 399.4 mile event. Thus, for the third year in succession, the Citroën Nemo takes the title of the ‘UK’s Most Economical Van’ in the arduous test posed by the ALD Automotive/TOTAL ECO 10 MPG Marathon.

According to John Kendall: “The Nemo returned 81.93mpg over a tough, Midlands-based route. We had to maintain a respectably high 30mph average speed to avoid penalties, as well as successfully ensuring that the Nemo delivered its optimum fuel economy. This year’s event certainly showed that the Citroën Nemo van is very fuel efficient on all types of roads and in all driving conditions.”

Robert Handyside, Citroën UK’s Commercial Vehicle Operations Manager, said; “For the third year in succession Citroën has shown that the company’s advanced technology delivers real-world operator benefits in terms of exceptional 81.93mpg fuel economy. The Nemo van’s outstanding fuel consumption figures are particularly relevant when fuel prices are at such high levels.”

The Nemo compact, high-cube van range starts from just £9,165 + VAT, and offers an unrivalled combination of low operating costs, high (610kg) payload, a practical and spacious 2.5cu.m load compartment – and as the ALD Automotive/TOTAL ECO 10 MPG Marathonproves, outstanding economy comes as standard.

Citroën has demonstrated its exceptional car and LCV fuel efficiency credentials with a double success in this year’s independent ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon, a demanding event organised by Fleet World magazine.

A C3 Airdream+ 1.6HDi 90hp – with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km – driven by Victor Harman, with co-driver James Stiff, achieved an incredible 86.67mpg. This was sufficient to better its official combined cycle fuel consumption figure by no less than 16.54% to take 3rd place in Class 3 (for passenger cars powered by diesel engines with CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less), and 3rd place overall in the event.

For the third year in succession, the Citroen Nemo takes the title of the ‘UK’s Most Economical Van’ in this arduous 2-day event. This year a Citroen Nemo 1.4HDi van returned an exceptional 81.93mpg in the ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon. This year’s independent ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon took place over a demanding 399.4 mile Midlands-based route. Both Citroën models had to maintain a respectably high 30mph average speed to avoid penalties, while ensuring that they successfully achieved optimum fuel economy. This year’s event showed that both the Citroën C3 Airdream+ and the Nemo van are exceptionally fuel efficient on all types of roads and in all driving conditions.

Charles Peugeot, Citroën UK’s Sales Director, said: “The independent ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon is an excellent test of a vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Both the C3 Airdream+ and the Nemo van have demonstrated the financial and environmental advantages of Citroën’s on-going policy of developing affordable green engineering.”

Priced at just £14,790, the well equipped C3 Airdream+ demonstrates that comfort can be combined with ‘green’, economical motoring. Powered by a 1.6HDi 90hp engine, this 99g/km CO2 emitting model has all the comfort, convenience and safety features of a well-equipped VTR+ model, as well as the extra benefits of rear parking sensors and Bluetooth® with USB box.

The well equipped Nemo compact, high-cube van range starts from just £9,165 + VAT, and offers an unrivalled combination of low operating costs, high (610kg) payload, a practical and spacious 2.5cu.m load compartment – and, as the ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon proves, outstanding economy comes as standard.

Vauxhall Vivaro wins MPG Marathon
Luton-built van achieves 60.6 per cent improvement on official combined economy
55mpg over 360-mile route
Running costs are critical to both van fleet managers and private customers alike, and Vauxhall’s Vivaro has proven itself as the out-and-out champ in terms of fuel economy by winning the commercial vehicle category of the 2009 Fleetworld/ALD MPG marathon.

The British-built van achieved an overall figure of 55.25mpg on the 360-mile drive, which took in challenging roads across the East and West Midlands over two days. This represents an improvement of 60.6 per cent over the van’s official combined economy figure of 34.4mpg, and proves that a smooth and careful approach to driving can pay huge dividends to drivers, and to fleets looking to cut their costs.

Driven by seasoned economy driver Andrew Duerden and co-driver Jim Smith, the winning van was a 2.0 CDTi 115PS SWB variant, the most popular of the Luton-built models.

“I knew that by keeping the van within its peak torque curve and by reading the road ahead we stood a good chance,” said Andrew. “But to achieve a 60 per cent improvement really shows that van drivers can achieve superb results by applying a responsible approach to their driving.”

The winning van was fitted with data-logging equipment supplied by Millbrook Proving Ground, which offers economy driver-training sessions to businesses and fleet operators alike.

It has won its category in the MPG Marathon before, but the figure of 55mpg is the best ever achieved by a Vivaro on the event, comprehensively beating rivals including a Ford Transit and Mercedes Vito.
