Land Rover Discovery 4 Wins Best 4X4 Category

New TDV6 Twin Turbo Engine

Land Rover’s Discovery 4 has been named ‘Best 4×4′ at the annual Diesel Car, Car of the Year Awards 2010, beating the Freelander 2 and the Range Rover to the top spot.

Ian Robertson, editor of Diesel Car Magazine said: “We offer no apologies for an all Land Rover line-up as finalists in this category, as the British firm’s 2010 range is simply the best ever. The Discovery 4 has always been unbeatable off-road, and now it has the on-road ace to match, with decent road manners and top notch refinement. There’s even enough room for seven full size adults on-board – and there aren’t many vehicles that can cope with that.”

The Discovery 4 is a supremely versatile seven-seat vehicle which now comes with a powerful and highly efficient TDV6 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel engine. The new engine delivers a nine percent fuel economy improvement (EU combined cycle) and ten percent* less CO2 emissions, at the same time as increasing power by 29%, compared with the outgoing 2.7-litre engine.

Together with a new fresh exterior identity and a more premium cabin, the class-leading breadth of capability of the Discovery 4 has now been extended even further with greater dynamic improvements for both on-road and off-road driving and a host of user-friendly technologies.

John Edwards, managing director for Land Rover UK added: “The outgoing Discovery 3 received over 100 international awards, and yet we’ve found ways to improve virtually every aspect of the new vehicle. It is therefore extremely rewarding for Land Rover to have received the one-two-three and recognition that that the best has just got better!”

THE NEW DISCOVERY 4 REIGNS SUPREME AT THE SCOTTISH CAR OF THE YEAR

Land Rover Disco 4

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 13 November 2009 – The Land Rover Discovery 4 has been crowned the 2009 ‘Scottish Car of the Year’ by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) at its annual awards ceremony, just days before the 20th anniversary of the original Discovery.

More than 60 vehicles have been put through their paces by the group on Scottish roads over the last 12 months but the Discovery 4 received the most votes overall for its go-anywhere capability and premium package.

Speaking from the gala evening Bill Caven, president of the ASMW commented: “4x4s remain a necessity for motoring north of the border. Being able to boldly go regardless of the weather conditions has ensured the Scots’ love affair with off-roaders remains as strong as ever. Despite its obvious role as a workhorse, the latest generation Land Rover Discovery 4 does not compromise on comfort, refinement or driving dynamics. The best just got better.”

John Edwards, managing director for Land Rover UK added: “It’s always fantastic to receive such recognition from the Industry, but to win the overall accolade of Scottish Car of the Year is a real privilege, especially when you consider the strength of the competition and the importance of the Scottish car market to our UK business. And the timing couldn’t have been better – Discovery is 20 years old on November 16. It has certainly evolved over the years but it has always provided – and continues to provide – an unrivalled all-round package to customers.”

The new Discovery 4 offers unbeatable versatility, capability and refinement. Alongside the fresh exterior design, the all-new interior, improved dynamics and the more powerful and more efficient 3.0-litre TDV6 powertrain, it also offers new state of the art user-friendly features such as a Surround Camera system, Gradient Release Control, Tow Assist, Automatic High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry and Push Button start.

Murray Dietsch, director of Land Rover product development, who collected the award said: “It is a huge pleasure to accept this important award on behalf of the Land Rover Product Development team. It is testament to the hard work and expertise of our Design and Engineering teams, and to the strength of automotive engineering in the UK.”

The Discovery 4 is on-sale now from £31,995. For more information or to book a test drive visit your local Land Rover dealership or log onto www.landrover.co.uk

Gaydon, Warwickshire, 28 September 2009 – The new Discovery 4 has taken home two accolades at the Caravan Club’s Towcar of the Year Awards 2010, which took place at the Royal Automobile Club in London last week. These are the first awarded to the new Discovery 4, which went on-sale in UK dealerships earlier this month.

The Discovery 4 won the ‘Best Towcar Over £32,000′ class and the ‘All Wheel Drive Over 1800kg’ category, beating the likes of the Lexus RX450h, Mercedes Benz E and C class, Volvo XC70 and XC60 and the Isuzu Rodeo. The testing was carried out at Millbrook Proving Ground to determine the car’s towing ability, dynamics when hitched, acceleration and braking.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, driving judge, Barry Williams of The Caravan Club commented: “The Land Rover Discovery 4 stood out among an astonishingly good selection of cars in the two classes it entered. It will go anywhere and offers an impressive array of caravan-friendly features. I’m sure it will be a popular choice with our members and their families.”

The Discovery 4 has a class-leading 3500kgs towing ability and comes with new intelligent towing technologies such as Tow Assist, which helps the driver perform accurate towing manoeuvres, and Trailer Stability Assist, a system that initiates engine torque reduction and braking interventions to bring the towing back under control when trailer oscillations and uninvited steering movements are detected.

“We are delighted to accept these awards from the Caravan Club and to see the new Discovery 4, following on from the enormous success of its predecessor, winning awards for its all-round capability and towing credentials,” said Land Rover UK managing director, John Edwards.

The Discovery 4 features the new LR-TDV6 3.0-litre diesel engine, which delivers more power, improved refinement, better fuel economy and lower emissions. With an impressive 600Nm of torque at low rpm and intelligent towing technologies at the driver’s disposal coupled with a more luxurious and comfortable interior cabin, it really is the perfect vehicle for caravan enthusiasts.”

Priced from £31,995 on the road, the Discovery 4 is on-sale now at Land Rover dealerships throughout the UK. For more information or to book at test drive visit your local Land Rover dealership or log onto
