ŠKODA SUPERB ESTATE HITS UK SHOWROOMS

Largest luggage capacity in its class
Prices from £17,715
Contract hire from £279/month
TopGear magazine’s Luxury Car of the Year
The new Škoda Superb Estate will become the most luxurious and most practical car ever to wear the famous Škoda badge when it goes on sale on 26 February.

With prices starting at just £17,715, the Super Estate offers the same great value for money as every Škoda. However, it’s not just the great value that sets it apart from its rivals. Its style, practicality and luxurious comfort have also won it critical acclaim.

Even before it hits UK showrooms, the Superb Estate has already won it fair share of admirers including the TopGear magazine team, who declared it their ‘Luxury Car of the Year’. It’s easy to see why.

From its bold, chrome-framed grille and distinctive headlights to its subtly curved, coupe-like roofline, the Superb Estate’s design balances road presence with elegance. But style doesn’t come at the expense of substance: the Superb Estate boasts the biggest load capacity in its class.

The combination of the impressive boot capacity – 633 litres with the rear seats in place and a massive 1,865 litre with them folded – and the Superb’s legendary rear legroom makes the Estate one of the most practical cars on the market. And if the Superb Estate’s cavernous load bay still isn’t big enough, all models are fitted with roof rails as standard.

Trim levels and engine choices will mirror those of the Superb hatchback with S, SE and Elegance models available along with the same range of three petrol and three diesel engines. All engines, from 1.4 TSI to 3.6 V6 are equipped with direct fuel injection for optimum fuel efficiency, performance and low emissions. With a choice of manual or twin-clutch DSG gearboxes linked to either front- or four-wheel drive, there’s a Superb Estate to suit everyone’s needs.

The estate is expected to account for a third of all Superb sales in 2010 (a total of 3,400, split 2,300/1,100 hatch/estate). Fleet sales are expected to account for 75 per cent of total sales.

Contract hire starts from just £279 per month based on 36 months and 15,000 miles per year.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT HIGHLINE PLUS… MORE EQUIPMENT AND VALUE

Passat Estate Highline Plus

Volkswagen is boosting its popular Passat and Passat Estate range with the addition of a new model, the Highline Plus. Over the already generous equipment list of the Passat Highline, the trim level which replaced the SE in February 2008, the Highline Plus gains chrome grille surround and louvres, Bluetooth telephone connectivity with touchscreen adaptor, as well as Volkswagen’s RNS 310 satellite navigation unit. The Highline Plus commands a premium of just £750 over the standard Highline with prices starting at £20,515 RRP ‘on the road’ for the 2.0-litre TDI 110 PS.

Standard on the Touran Match model, the new RNS 310 unit is a CD-based satellite navigation system with integrated radio and MP3-compatible CD player. It has touchscreen operation with a five-inch colour screen for ease of use and visibility, an SD card reader, plus AUX-in slot for connection to external multimedia devices. This new system will shortly become available on other Passat models, priced at £795.

The Bluetooth touch adaptor works in conjunction with the factory-fit phone preparation and incorporates a dash-mounted cradle. The touchscreen adaptor has a 2.8-inch screen displaying clear icons which, once paired with a mobile phone, displays the phone book, text message alerts and caller ID. Calls can be answered or terminated using the multifunction steering wheel. The touch adaptor can connect to most Bluetooth-enabled phones, including the iPhone and Blackberry.

The Highline Plus also includes all the features of the standard Passat Highline including ABS and ESP, six airbags, 17-inch alloy wheels, semi-automatic climate control, cruise control and leather upholstery. The new specification level is also available with the same engines as the Highline. This means customers can choose from a 1.8-litre TSI 160 PS petrol, 2.0-litre TDI 110 PS, 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS with or without BlueMotion technology efficiency package, and the range-topping 2.0-litre TDI with 170 PS. Gearbox availability is shown in the following table.

The Highline Plus is available to order from Volkswagen Retailers now, ready for deliveries in January. For more details, visit www.volkswagen.co.uk.

Škoda Auto Begins Production Of Superb Estate

Skoda Estate TDI

The first Škoda Superb Estate rolled off the production line today (Monday 9th November 2009) in Kvasiny, Czech Republic – an Elegance 2.0 TDI CR 170bhp DSG DPF in Satin Grey.

The most luxurious estate car yet to wear the Škoda badge offers a class-leading load volume of up to 1,865 litres (633 litres with the rear seats up). A choice of three petrol and three diesel engines will be available in the Superb Estate, plus manual and DSG transmissions – the same engine range as is available in the Superb hatch (launched September 2008).

The Superb Estate is 4,838 mm long, 1,817 wide and 1,510 high – comfortably the most spacious and practical car in the upper-medium segment. In keeping with Škoda’s tradition of offering great value for money, the estate has a number of new optional features, including a keyless entry and ignition system and a revised version of the hatchback’s award-winning Park Assist system that allows the estate to parallel park in an even tighter space than before. An electronically operated boot opening and panoramic sunroof are also available.

Since its launch in 2008 the Superb hatch has found over 3,000 homes in the UK (up to October 2009). Worldwide, Škoda has delivered 33,434 Superbs to customers from January through to October this year – 78% more than it had sold over the same period of the previous year.

Production started today with left-hand drive vehicles and right-hand drive production will follow in January 2010.
