CITROËN’S CAR & LCV SUCCESS IN MPG MARATHON

mpg marathon citroen
Citroën has demonstrated its exceptional car and LCV fuel efficiency credentials with a double success in this year’s independent ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon, a demanding event organised by Fleet World magazine.

A C3 Airdream+ 1.6HDi 90hp – with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km – driven by Victor Harman, with co-driver James Stiff, achieved an incredible 86.67mpg. This was sufficient to better its official combined cycle fuel consumption figure by no less than 16.54% to take 3rd place in Class 3 (for passenger cars powered by diesel engines with CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less), and 3rd place overall in the event.

For the third year in succession, the Citroen Nemo takes the title of the ‘UK’s Most Economical Van’ in this arduous 2-day event. This year a Citroen Nemo 1.4HDi van returned an exceptional 81.93mpg in the ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon. Driven by John Kendall, with co-driver Dr. Paul Nieuwenhuis, the Citroën Nemo beat all other LCVs that took part in the event.

This year’s independent ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon took place over a demanding 399.4 mile Midlands-based route. Both Citroën models had to maintain a respectably high 30mph average speed to avoid penalties, while ensuring that they successfully achieved optimum fuel economy. This year’s event showed that both the Citroën C3 Airdream+ and the Nemo van are exceptionally fuel efficient on all types of roads and in all driving conditions.

Charles Peugeot, Citroën UK’s Sales Director, said: “The independent ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon is an excellent test of a vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Both the C3 Airdream+ and the Nemo van have demonstrated the financial and environmental advantages of Citroën’s on-going policy of developing affordable green engineering.”

Priced at just £14,790, the well equipped C3 Airdream+ demonstrates that comfort can be combined with ‘green’, economical motoring. Powered by a 1.6HDi 90hp engine, this 99g/km CO2 emitting model has all the comfort, convenience and safety features of a well-equipped VTR+ model, as well as the extra benefits of rear parking sensors and Bluetooth® with USB box.

The well equipped Nemo compact, high-cube van range starts from just £9,165 + VAT, and offers an unrivalled combination of low operating costs, high (610kg) payload, a practical and spacious 2.5cu.m load compartment – and, as the ALD Automotive/Total ECO 10 MPG Marathon proves, outstanding economy comes as standard.

CITROËN + GM COACHWORK = NEW BERLINGO BLAZE

berlingo multispace

Citroën Berlingo Multispace MPV versatility and the expertise of award-winning GM Coachwork – Motability Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Partner of the Year 2009 – have combined to produce the new Berlingo Blaze.

This advanced, compact wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) has been developed to set new standards of user convenience in this sector. The new Berlingo Blaze is available in two formats – driver, plus wheelchair passenger and two other passengers, or driver plus wheelchair passenger and three other passengers.

GM Coachwork – an expanding business – expects its new Blaze compact WAV, which is based on the Citroën Berlingo Multispace VT or XTR, to be one of its major sellers in the Motability sector during 2010. To prepare for this high level of demand the Trusham, Devon headquartered company has taken delivery of its first 30 Berlingo Multispace MPVs for conversion – with more orders in the pipeline.

To provide the Berlingo Blaze with class leading standards of user versatility and convenience, GM Coachwork has used its 21 years of specialist engineering expertise to best effect. Key to the unique abilities of the Berlingo Blaze, is its low floor conversion of the rear compartment, which not only provides generous rear headroom of 1,372mm (4ft 6in), but also a very shallow angle for the fold-out, non-slip surfaced light alloy ramp. This provides safer and easier entry and exit for the wheelchair and its passenger. The lowered rear floor compartment also provides the width necessary to accommodate a range of full-size wheelchairs.

As standard, the Berlingo Blaze is supplied with a single Citroën folding rear seat for one passenger, enabling the wheelchair passenger to be carried alongside. Or, as an option, GM Coachwork will provide two custom-made rear passenger seats – allowing the wheelchair passenger to be carried centrally.

The Berlingo Blaze, based on the Berlingo Multispace 1.6i VT, is available priced from £13,995 (for Motability customers – £495 advance payment and full Motability allowance), while the Berlingo Multispace 1.6HDi XTR based model is priced from £15,995 (or for Motability customers – £1,195 advance payment and full Motability allowance). All models have a three year, 60,000 mile warranty.

Nigel Collins, GM Coachwork managing director, comments, “GM Coachwork has a reputation for engineering innovation and exceptional customer care, which is reflected in the vehicles we use for our Motability conversions. We chose the Citroën Berlingo Multispace as the basis for our new compact WAV as it met all our criteria. It is stylish, yet practical and well equipped, and Citroën is respected for its engineering and versatility in the Motability sector. The resulting Berlingo Blaze provides a unique range of benefits in the compact WAV sector.”

GM Coachwork is one of the UK’s largest specialist converters in the Motability sector. Its award-winning WAV products range in size from the new Berlingo Blaze upwards, to the largest of minibus conversions. In addition, the company is at the forefront in the design and manufacture of other sophisticated conversions, which allow the vehicle to be driven by a driver seated in a wheelchair.

HAVING A SWINGING TIME WITH THE NEW CITROËN C3

C3 Advert

Citroën’s latest TV advertisement – a fun film created for the launch of the new C3 – features the Company’s latest supermini having a ‘swinging’ time by the sea.

In the 60-second ad, a young couple sneak new C3 past a security guard and into a dockyard where they connect the car’s wheels to the cables of a shipping container crane – and then accelerate up into the air to create a giant swing.

Inside the cabin, the couple experience the extraordinary panoramic view through new C3’s unique Zenith windscreen – from a very original perspective.

New C3 is one of Citroën’s most fuel and CO2 efficient cars, and is the first production Citroën with a model emitting less than 99g/km of CO2. The sensational panoramic Zenith windscreen, which is 36% bigger than a conventional screen on an average five door small car, delivers an all-new motoring experience for drivers and passengers alike.

The TV advert airs from today – 14th December – and new C3 is ‘on sale’ from 15th January 2010, with prices starting at just £10,790 for the entry-level petrol model, rising to £16,140 for the range-topping 1.6HDi 110hp Exclusive.
