VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK PICK-UP TO MAKE UK DEBUT

The new Volkswagen Amarok pick-up will make its hotly anticipated UK premiere this week at the 2011 Outdoors Show at the ExCel exhibition centre in London’s Docklands from 13-16 January.

Specialising in all aspects of outdoor pursuits and experiences, the Outdoors Show is now in its tenth year, and 2011 marks the event’s first visit to the capital. More than 125,000 visitors are expected to pass through the doors over the next four days.

Alongside the Amarok, and also making a UK debut ahead of launch later this year, will be the Berghaus limited edition of the California. Created in collaboration with the outdoor clothing specialists, the California Berghaus will be available with a 2.0-litre BiTDI 180 PS engine and standard equipment includes a bike rack, awning, Berghaus-branded carpet mats and waterproof seat covers, and exclusive 18-inch bi-colour ‘Dakar’ alloy wheels.

Following the show, the Amarok will then embark on a nationwide tour, giving customers a chance to see and experience the vehicle in a series of static displays at Volkswagen Van Centres across the UK, before the first right-hand drive vehicles arrive in the spring.

Combining a robust pick-up with innovative technology, high safety standards, excellent fuel economy and Volkswagen standards of comfort, quality and durability, the new four-door double-cab pick-up was recently honoured with the inaugural International Pick-up Award.

The Amarok boasts the largest load dimensions in its class with a load area of 2.52 m² (1,555 mm long, 1,620 mm wide, with width between wheelarches of 1,222 mm).

All models feature advanced technology and safety systems including EDL (Electronic Differential Lock), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) with Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control and off-road ABS designed to shorten stopping distances significantly on loose surfaces.

UK prices and specifications for the Amarok and limited edition California Berghaus will be announced in the coming months.

COMMON RAIL DIESEL TECHNOLOGY MAKES SUPERB EVEN MORE ATTRACTIVE

2.0 TDI 140bhp now with Common Rail technology
Lower emissions, better fuel economy and refinement
Prices from £18,205
The multi-award winning Škoda Superb range is now even more desirable thanks to the addition of the new 2.0 TDI CR 140bhp DPF.

By incorporating the very latest Common Rail diesel technology, this new model is even more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly than the 2.0 TDI PD 140bhp it replaces. Combined fuel consumption has improved by 4.4mpg and is now an outstanding 52.3mpg, while CO2 emissions have been reduced by 12g/km to just 143g/km.* The standard diesel particulate filter (DPF) also ensures compliance with the latest EU5 emissions regulations.

The use of a single, high-pressure fuel rail and a lower compression ratio has the added benefit of making the Superb even more refined than ever.

All of these improvements have been made without affecting the Superb’s strong performance or its price, which starts from £18,205. The new 2.0 TDI CR 140bhp DPF engine is available from 18th February with a choice of six-speed manual or twin-clutch DSG transmissions, in hatchback or estate bodystyles and in S, SE or Elegance trim.

This new engine option joins the existing 1.9 TDI PD 105bhp and 2.0 TDI CR 170bhp DPF diesel engines in the Superb range.

Škoda Superb Estate 4×4: Luxury and Safety Whatever the Weather

Fourth-generation Haldex clutch
Available with 1.8 TSI, 2.0 TDI CR 170 & 3.6 V6
Prices from £22,420
With its fourth-generation Haldex clutch four-wheel drive, the new Škoda Superb Estate 4×4 offers award winning comfort and safety, whatever the weather.

Available with 1.8 TSI 160bhp and 3.6 V6 260bhp petrol engines as well as the 2.0 TDI CR 170bhp diesel, the Superb Estate 4×4 can tackle the sort of slippery conditions that would leave its two-wheel drive competitors stranded. The system transfers torque to whichever wheels have the most traction by taking signals from the ABS sensors, greatly increasing driving safety in the type of snowy and icy conditions that have gripped the UK this winter.

But the Superb Estate 4×4′s capabilities aren’t limited to wintery conditions. In the summer months the 4×4 technology will ensure that pulling trailers and caravans is easier, safer and more enjoyable than ever. And because drive to the rear wheels is disengaged when not needed, there’s little adverse effect on fuel consumption.

The Superb Estate is already the holder of Top Gear Magazine’s ‘Luxury Car of the Year’ Award, despite not going on sale until 26th February 2010, and the availability of four-wheel drive only adds to its broad appeal. Prices start at £22,420 for the Superb Estate 1.8 TSI 160bhp 4×4 SE.

With the Octavia Estate 4×4, Octavia Scout, Yeti 4×4 and the Superb Hatch and Estate 4×4, Škoda offers a broad range of four-wheel drive models for all needs and conditions.

Skoda Auto at the Frankfurt International Motor Show

Škoda Auto will present several new products and innovations at the 63rd International Motor Show in Frankfurt, the key one being the new Superb Combi. Offering excellent comfort, generous space and distinctive design, this upper-medium segment vehicle incorporates Škoda’s typical front end design. A long wheel base and the roof line that forms a moderate arch give the vehicle well-balanced proportions, as well as an optimum combination of passenger and luggage compartment dimensions.

The new Superb Combi is 4,838 mm long, 1,817 mm wide and 1,510 mm high. Luggage compartment volume is 633 litres, rising to 1,865 litres with the rear seats folded down. For the first time ever in a Škoda car, the manufacturer offers an electrically controlled tailgate as an option. When open, the boot cover automatically moves to its middle position to open up more space for comfortable luggage handling. The vehicle’s low loading edge, and the floor platform that can be moved out over the rear bumper when the tailgate is open, make loading big objects a lot easier.

Also for the first time, this all-new Škoda will be available with the KESSY system for starting, unlocking and locking the vehicle without using a conventional key. Instead, an impulse transmitter communicates with the vehicle’s control unit and unlocks and locks the doors upon touching the door handle. The engine is started and switched off by pushing a button placed on the right side of the steering wheel column.

Reinhard Jung, Škoda Auto BOD Chairman, said “Superb Combi is yet another excellent vehicle by Škoda. Combi version of the Skoda Auto flagship illustrates ongoing development efforts of the company. With its specific design so typical of Škoda, outstanding spaciousnes and several Simply clever innovations it extends the tradition of Skoda Auto“.

The engine portfolio of the Superb Combi is identical with that of the Superb, i.e. three petrol units (1.4 TSI 125bhp, 1.8 TSI 160bhp and 3.6 FSI V6 360bhp) and two diesel engines (2.0 TDI PD 103 kW and 2.0 TDI CR DPF 125 kW). All of these engines are based on direct fuel injection for low fuel consumption and emission values. The latest generation of the Haldex transmission will be featured in the all wheel drive versions of the vehicle.

Optionally, the Superb Combi will be available with an electrically controlled two-piece panoramic sunroof. When sunlight is too bright, it is possible to cover the glass roof with a sunblind. Another interesting innovation is a fin-shaped roof antenna – its slim shape makes the rear part of the roof line extremely elegant.

The company is also going to showcase the new Yeti, as it gradually goes on sale across Europe. Having achieved one of the best Euro NCAP results in history, this new SUV is a great success and the 9,000+ vehicles already ordered by customers show that Škoda Auto has set out in the right direction in this segment.

Škoda Auto’s motorshow presentation will also include the Octavia LPG, an environmentally-friendly and economical alternative to vehicles fitted with conventional petrol and diesel engines. This solution combines the benefits of a highly responsive petrol engine and an LPG unit to dramatically reduce fuel costs as well as CO2 emissions.

Furthermore, Škoda Auto is going to present three design packages for the Škoda Roomster, including design modifications and greater variability of the exterior design of the vehicle, such as differently coloured roofs (Candy White, Black Magic and Brilliant Silver), stickers identifying this design line and silver plastic elements.
