Mumsnet families introduced to Diesel Ford Galaxy

Ford Galaxy TDCI
Families who use Mumsnet’s vibrant parenting forums have been introduced to the new seven-seater Ford S-MAX and Galaxy range.

Ford’s partnership with Mumsnet enabled eight families to familiarise themselves with the technology-laden MPVs. They then drove petrol and diesel models, featuring Ford’s new smooth and economical six-speed PowerShift automatic transmission.

Parents reviewed the simple and secure operation of approved child seats located using Ford’s integral ISOFIX fitting points. Families soon became familiar with how the cars’ air con, audio and bonded phones can be controlled with steering wheel-mounted controls.

Mums and dads, blogging later on Mumsnet.com said: “I’ve driven a fair few people carriers in my time and have tried several of the newer ones on the market and frankly none of them compare to this. The Galaxy is the people carrier to beat now.

“We took out the 2.0 TDCi Titanium, with 163 PS option. It was an auto with the new Powershift transmission. It coped well with everything I threw at it, I could really appreciate the dual clutch – the changes were pretty much seamless. Engine was very responsive, with plenty of oomph when overtaking. As for the cabin, the kids were in heaven! They loved the space and the array of hatches on the central roof console. I remembered my iPod so the kids could bop away to their playlist thanks to the connector in the glove box.”

A draw awarded two participating families with a Ford S-MAX and Galaxy for an extended three-week test drive, which will enable them to share their experiences through a video diary on the site.

Mark Simpson, Ford Britain marketing director, said: “In a year when the new S-MAX and Galaxy will be joined by new five and seven-seat family-friendly C-MAX models in the autumn, there could not be a better time for Ford to partner a high-profile and influential site like Mumsnet.”

Co-founder of Mumsnet, Carrie Longton said: “Ford are to be congratulated for realising that, more often than not, it’s mums who are driving the decision-making process on what family car to buy. Mumsnetters have been queuing up to take part in the test drives and are loving the opportunity to road test and offer feedback on these top-of-the-range Ford cars.”

Volkswagen Golf does the double by winning best medium car again this year
Toyota’s Prius wins best Eco Car Award in this new category
Peugeot grabs gongs with 3008, 5008 and RCZ
Diesel Car magazine is proud to announce the winners of its annual car of the year awards 2010, with Peugeot’s 5008 MPV grabbing the top spot in this year’s awards.

More than 275 new cars have been put through their paces by Diesel Car’s expert testers, to bring winners in ten classes. This year’s awards are sponsored by Evolution Chips, one of the leaders in diesel tuning in the UK. For 2010, Diesel Car introduces three new categories – best crossover, best sports car and best eco car. The last recognises the best in the hybrid world of motoring.

In revealing this year’s winners, Ian Robertson, Editor of Diesel Car magazine said “We have seen a lot of talented contenders this year, despite the turmoil the motor industry has faced.” He went on to say “I’m really pleased to be able to announce that Peugeot’s spectacular 5008 is Diesel Car’s Car of the Year 2010. It truly is the right car for the right times, with competitive pricing, generous equipment levels, a good all-round driving experience that is all wrapped up in a package that seats seven. What more could a family buyer want from a car.”

Not content with winning best MPV and Car of the Year for 2010, Peugeot also grabbed titles in two of the newest categories – best crossover with the 3008, and stormed the sports car class with the stylish new RCZ.

Some of the winners will be familiar, as they topped their respective classes in last years awards, with the Ford Fiesta grabbing best small car for the second year running, Volkswagen’s Golf winning the double in the best medium car class, and Skoda’s Superb again stealing the best large car award from its stable mates. Jaguar’s stunning XF did better than all of them, by running away with the best executive car award for the third year in succession.

Skoda’s Superb proves that not only is it a winner in the large car class, but also in the estate car category too, taking the top gong in both classes.

In the 4×4 class, Land Rover’s updated Discovery 4 took the top spot, narrowly beating last year’s winner, the Freelander 2, and the upgraded Range Rover.

The 2010 Diesel Car, Car of the Year Awards coincides with a new owner for Diesel Car magazine, with Blaze Publishing having bought the title last month. The Midlands based publisher specialises in niche magazine markets and has already brought about improvements to the best selling diesel magazine, with significant investment in many areas.

The Awards issue of Diesel Car magazine goes on sale in all good newsagents on Wednesday 12th March.

The new line-up has six series and five engine options to choose from and broadens the Fiesta appeal to a wider range of consumers.

New line-up
The Fiesta range now consists of Studio, Edge, ECOnetic, Zetec, Titanium and Zetec S models and with 1.25 petrol and choices of 1.4-litre petrol or diesel or 1.6 petrol or diesel engines.

Studio is where the Fiesta story starts and it now comes as either three or five door and with electric front windows as standard. The new Edge series has air conditioning as standard. For class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions, the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic now also has air conditioning – without compromising the official combined cycle efficiency of 76.3mpg*. Zetec is likely to remain the most popular buyers’ choice with high specifications as standard.

At the sporty end of the Fiesta line-up is the ever-popular Zetec S series where alloy pedals, sporty side skirts and Quickclear windscreen become standard.

The new Fiesta Titanium Individual offers a level of premium luxury rarely found in small cars while providing a saving of £100 over a similarly equipped Titanium model.

The Individual is available in six exterior colours with a special red interior. Added to that are 16in, seven-spoke alloy wheels, Bluetooth with USB and unique premium leather seats in red and silver.

Marketing Director, Ford of Britain, Mark Simpson said: “We have sold more than 100,000 Fiestas in its first year and we know our customers like to personalise their Fiestas. The new line up with the fabulous Individual special edition will help them achieve this.”
