TDISport will be holding a Rolling Road day at the CCTuning headquarters in Burton Upon Trent, DE14 2DS on the 1st May (the long bank holiday weekend).
Everyone is welcome, but please put your name down on the list which can be found here:
TDISport Rolling Road Thread

The session will consist of 3 rolling road runs per car, along with an accurate print out of each stating the power made from your car. The cost is just £30 for the whole day, but no charge if you wish to pop along, show your support or even decide to run later on in the day.
This will be our third rolling road day to be held at CCTuning and are aiming to make this the biggest and best turnout yet. As with before all runs will be uploaded onto the TDISport youtube channel (unless you wish us not to), the pictures and write-up from the day will be sent to a couple of magazines for them to use as editorial, both in paper in the magazine and online.

People wishing to make use of the CCTuning special offer of discounted remaps to all TDISport members can make use of this opportunity at the end of the rolling road session, with power runs on the dyno from before and after the tuning session, along with a print-out.

The Ford Fiesta has been selected Diesel Car magazine’s Best Small Car of the Year 2010. The award comes just as Fiesta has been upgraded to consolidate its number one sales spot in Britain.

Ian Robertson, editor of Diesel Car magazine said: “The Fiesta is great to drive with terrific handling, precise steering and a supple well-judged ride. The blend of good looks, frugal diesel engine and funky interior design makes it a real winner in our eyes.”

Mark Simpson, marketing director, Ford of Britain said: “This latest Fiesta is becoming another Ford icon. The British public love the Fiesta’s style but, as Diesel Car states, once they get behind the wheel, they love that experience too.”

Ford announced last month that Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) was standard across the Fiesta range. Bluetooth and USB connection are standard in Titanium models, there is more power for the stage V diesel engines and CO2 emissions are reduced.

The Ford Fiesta continues to lead the UK sales charts with 43,611 sales so far in 2010.

Škoda unveils Fabia Combi GreenLine II and Roomster GreenLine II
New technology further reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels
Innovations include a new engine with common rail, stop-start, energy recuperation and gear recommendation technology
Following-on from the launch of the face-lifted Fabia and Roomster, Škoda Auto has unveiled the Fabia Estate GreenLine II and Roomster GreenLine II – the first of its second generation of environmentally-friendly GreenLine models.

The new model Fabia and Roomster’s have been facelifted and fitted with new technology designed to further reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emission levels. The most important innovations include a new engine (1.2 TDI CR DPF/75bhp DPF) with Common Rail (high-pressure direct injection), start-stop technology, energy recuperation and gear recommendation (on a Maxi DOT display).

One of the biggest technological changes in the second-generation GreenLine version is a new three-cylinder supercharged engine (1.2 TDI CR DPF/55 kW) with a consumption of just 83.1 mpg and CO2 emissions of 89 g/km for the Fabia Estate GreenLine II, and 67.3 and 109 g/km for the Roomster GreenLine II.

In addition to lower CO2 emissions, other contaminant levels have also been reduced. The new engine complies with the EU 5 emission standard that, for diesel engines, has stricter regulations for nitrogen oxides and solid particles. The gear ratios of the car’s five-speed transmission are identical to those of the ordinary Fabia and Roomster models fitted with the same engine. As a result, the GreenLine II offers the same responsiveness yet with lower consumption.

The key benefits of the stop-start system stand out in busy city traffic. The system operates automatically, directly after the engine starts. If, after some time, the driver stops the vehicle, engages neutral and releases the clutch pedal, the engine switches off automatically. As soon as the driver presses the clutch, the engine starts again immediately. stop-start makes it is possible to save up to 4.2mpg (combined) or up to 7.7 mpg in city traffic.

Energy recuperation is another state-of-the-art technology introduced on the new Fabia Estate i GreenLine II and Roomster GreenLine II. Effective utilisation of the vehicle’s kinetic energy for battery recharging is a simple system that helps to save fuel continuously. The two systems – Start-Stop and Braking energy recovery work in partnership and, along with other measures, help to make the operation of these new models as environmentally-friendly as possible. The application of the energy recovery system has helped to reduce the CO2 emissions by 2 – 4 g/km.

Other technologies Škoda is introducing on the Greenline II models to improve economy are the gear recommendation system, which helps the driver make optimum use of the engine’s potential, a lowered and aerodynamically-covered chassis and, last but not least, low rolling resistance tyres.

A pair of Subaru Foresters helped make British snowsport history recently by supporting a unique challenge – to ski in both the south of England and the north of Scotland on the same day, and travelling between locations using a single tank of fuel.

The Forester’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive made light work of the severe snowy conditions encountered up in the Highlands of Scotland, and the SUV finished the test with ample diesel to spare, averaging an impressive 45mpg during the entire 480-mile trip – even when overflowing with kit and sitting at the national motorway speed limit.

After taking to the slopes of the SnoZone indoor ski centre at Xscape, Milton Keynes, at 4.00am, the intrepid ski team then set off for the Cairngorm Mountain Resort. Arriving at 2.25pm in fine fettle after a comfortable and largely traffic-free cruise, they then hit the pistes once again to complete their incredible feat.

During the nine-hour journey north, the 2.0-litre ‘Boxer’ diesel Foresters used in the challenge both averaged around their official claimed extra-urban mpg figure, while sitting at the national speed limit. One of them even returned a petrol-pump-dodging 57.6mpg.

The revised suspension of the 2010-model year Foresters – incorporating uprated springs and dampers – eased away the motorway miles, and kept the drivers entertained when the route north took in some twisty A and B roads.

The Foresters also made short work of stowing all the required skis, boots and poles, thanks to a commodious 1610-litres of luggage space with the rear seats folded. Accessing this is now even easier, as the rear seats in the latest top-spec Foresters can be dropped forward quickly and easily with the pull of a small lever located in the boot.

Kenyon Neads, Subaru UK’s Marketing and PR Director, added: “We had no doubts that the Forester would be the perfect support vehicle for this snowy challenge. It is one of the cleanest and most fuel-efficient SUV’s available, has ample space for passengers and luggage, and its All-Wheel-Drive capability and revised suspension make light work of all road surfaces – from motorways to icy country lanes.”

The 2010 Model Year Forester range costs from £19,995. The 2.0D XS NavPlus models used in the snowsport challenge cost £27,745 and boast 17-inch alloy wheels, sat-nav, heated leather seats, cruise control and roof rails as standard.

SEAT is today unveiling the first details of an exciting new Leon Ecomotive Prototype which adds a radical twist to the idea of maintenance-free motoring.

The one-off prototype has been cleverly re-engineered to include a 545-litre (120-gallon) fuel tank which, working on the basis of the new Ecomotive’s extra urban economy figure of 83.1 mpg, gives the ultra-green Leon the unique ability to cover a full 10,000 miles between fill-ups.

As a result this exceptional Leon Ecomotive, which like the production version boasts a new 1.6-litre TDIcommon rail powerplant as well as new start-stop technology, is able to offer many of its lucky owners the luxury of never having to visit the filling station again.

Since the SEAT comes with a 12-month/10,000-mile service interval as standard, the new prototype model need only ever be fuelled by a SEAT dealer. As such, the car is not fitted with a conventional fuel filler flap or cap, the diesel instead being refilled via a special nozzle in the boot.

Even higher mileage drivers covering, for example, 12,000 miles a year could collect their car in, say, June and then look forward to ten months of unstoppable motoring before their vehicle’s first scheduled 10,000-mile service and an April fuel stop.

Of course to accommodate this extra-large fuel tank SEAT’s engineers have had to significantly rework the Leon’s interior layout. Out have come the rear seats to be replaced, instead, by the enlarged tank which fits neatly into the space vacated by the three seats.

A handy luggage space sits atop the extra-large fuel tank, meaning the Leon Ecomotive Prototype remains as practical as it is economical.

Other important revisions have been made to the SEAT’s standard suspension set-up of course, allowing it to maintain its sporty handling while carrying the increased fuel load. The Leon’s already efficient brakes have been uprated, too.

As ever, safety is paramount and SEAT’s engineers have worked hard to ensure the concept doesn’t compromise passenger or pedestrian protection. Significant reinforcement of the Leon’s already robust passenger protection measures ally to the fact that even should the tank be ruptured in a serious accident, a characteristic of diesel fuel is that although it will burn in open air using a wick it will not explode and does not release a large amount of flammable vapour.

The clear advantage of the prototype SEAT is, of course, never having to queue at the filling station, never again donning the plastic disposable glove before refuelling and never waiting in line to pay. In the case of the new car, refuelling takes place as a matter of course when the car visits a SEAT dealership, with dealers set to offer handy fuel payment plans alongside the existing fixed price service plans.

Head of SEAT UK Press & PR, Mike Orford, said of the intriguing prototype: ‘Clearly, you’d be a fool not to see the benefits of this new Leon Ecomotive.

‘Travelling 10,000 miles between fill-ups removes a significant amount of forecourt queuing and waiting time for Leondrivers meaning they’ll have more time to spend enjoying their car.

‘We expect the first drivers will be tickled pink when the car goes on sale here.’
