Well it was an early start today, up at 5.30, but well worth it. I had a trip down to see Chris at CCtuning, and had an up and down day.
First run on the rollers showed my 150 was actually a 141  This was the down, the rest was all 'up'
After the lovely warmth of the car on the run down the workshop was freezing so I huddled in the corner next to the heater while Chris worked his magic, and soon we had it strapped back down and doing an 'after' run

Image

oooo, a large fan, whats that for? :)

Despite a canny hike theres probably less smoke than on standard settings even when running hard

Image

and the final readings......

Image

165bhp and 285 torques (up from 240)

Not the actually figures I was expecting based on the supposition it was good for at least 150 standard, but Chris was good to his word, and got the increases I asked for in the way I wanted them (biased towards low down torque). It wasnt his fault that we started 10hp down. He could have worked with it and got more, but we went for a test drive and I was more than happy with it as I was after torque rather than high power numbers, at times I had trouble stopping the wheels spinning. I had a really good run back to my mates in Leeds, cant remember being overtaken by very much at all, and every time I checked the mpg figures they were way up compared to on the run down so all in all Im a very happy bunny.
Big thanks to Chris, a proper gent and all round jolly good egg

Not so much gutted as its always driven fairly well, but definitely baffled as to why it was down from standard. My audi was the other way, 10 up on standard.
I had it in to Saab for a service a couple of weeks ago for a service and they declared it fit (once they had replaced the inlet manifold) so I dont know why its lost 10bhp.
The main thing is that it drives like a different car now, cant wait to put some miles on it over the weekend. Im also going to ask on UKSaabs for ideas on where the missing ponies might be

seems to me chris is being brutally honest with his results, other people claim to get 200bhp from this engine with a tuning box kinda makes you wonder...........

We actually had a discussion on faking results and what factors affect readings.
I'd go to someone with a reputation for honest readings much sooner than someone renowned for big numbers.

i agree. it's easy to get massive power but it's either dangerous or comes in just 1 massive spike. the power on mine is spread right across the rev range and is still pulling upto the red line

My Passat has been remapped for over 4 years and no issues what so ever.

It dosn't produce big peaks numbers, but does produce a big wallop to torque from about 1400rpm. My clutch seems well up to that.

Well, having been out for a nice run this afternoon I can confirm Im really happy with the job Chris did. The drivability is improved immensely and I surprised a few 'performance' motors :)

Do it, you know it makes sense :)
As long as you dont rag it everywhere and drag start away from every set of lights you should be ok. If we have a northern meet anywhere Im happy to show you the abuse mine gets and I expect it to be ok

appreciate it but with mine a remap may unearth an acknowledged fault with the clutch that wont be fixed if its mapped

fix it first then , remap after. clutches just dont go , if you abuse your car youll get problems , drive with care and dont spin the wheels everywhere and things will be cushty

50mpg? I think Im getting more than that, Ive done 72 miles and the needle hasnt moved off the full mark :)
Question for anyone, but probably best answered by Chris himself - after the remap, how accurate is the info display that gives me the mpg figure? Does it read differently now things have been altered? Reason I ask is that Im now showing a total of almost 700 miles from a tank (which isnt bad, my audi used to show that at times) but the Saab only used to do about 580 prior to the map. 72 miles into the tank isnt really enough to get an accurate figure from refuelling. I was expecting better mpg but not that much
